A MAN who allegedly sold a pickup truck he bought on finance has been accused of theft.

John Cannon is due to appear in court after being charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

It comes after the 53-year-old allegedly stopped paying for a Toyota Hilux he had purchased from a car finance company in Winsford.

Winsford Police say that Cannon is believed to have stopped making the payments around 12 months ago.

“Despite numerous efforts to resolve the matter and recover the vehicle, the suspect failed to keep lines of communication open with them,” a spokesperson for the force said.

Officers from the Winsford BEAT team have been investigating the matter.

They believe Cannon had sold the vehicle on, treating it as his own property, while still owing the finance company more than £36,000.

As such, Cannon, of Chester Lane in Marton, has now been charged with theft of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear at Crewe Magistrates Court on May 16.
